Riding Mill Drama Club Newsletter – July 2011
As usual at this time of year, we bring members up to date with events – though now we have our wonderful website it does not feel quite so necessary.
We were glad to see all those who attended the AGM at the end of May. The numbers were a little down, but some members were away and others had rehearsals. At the AGM it was announced that Ian Johnston had resigned from the committee and club as he had moved from the area. Sadly Rob Allcock also resigned from the committee due to pressure of work. We do thank him for all the hard work he has put in, and hope he will consider standing again at a later date.
Mike Smith and Frances Holmes were proposed as new committee members and we are delighted they have joined the committee – the rest of the committee and officers remain the same as last year.
At the AGM there was some discussion about the future of the raffle during productions. Although it brings in a good deal of money (over £200), some members felt it was rather outdated. The issue was discussed at the committee meeting after the AGM, and the decision was taken that it would continue, but in a slightly altered format – bought prizes and not quite such “aggressive” selling! We will have to see how this goes at the next production.
As ever at this time of year, subscriptions are due. Please contact Jean Buckley (633723) to renew them if you haven’t already done so.
For this year the subscriptions are still £10 for a Family membership and £7 for a single.
But from May 2012, the Family Membership will increase to £12.
Dates for your diary
First and foremost is the Summer Soiree on Saturday July 9th. This will be in the Parish Hall and details are on the website. Many members have yet to get their tickets, so please hurry.
There will be two play readings on the summer, both readings will start at 7.30pm
The first one will be on Tuesday July 26th at the home of Mike and Carole Smith
The second one on Monday August 22nd at Ken Pearce’s House (changed from 15th August)
The Autumn production this year is “A Christmas Carol” directed by Eileen Davidson
The actual production dates are :- Nov 30th, Dec 1st, 2nd, and 3rd. (Four Nights)
There will be two auditions during the summer – again the details are on the website.
Eileen would be particularly glad to hear from people who would be prepared to help backstage. Its no good having actors, if there’s no-one back-stage !
The Social Gatherings at the Traveller’s Rest and the Dyvels proved popular
The next meeting is on October 3rd at 8pm in The George, Chollerford
We look forward to seeing you at one – or all – of the events.
Best wishes,
Anne Lawrence (on behalf of the Committee )
